Tyrrell's Vat 1 Semillon 2018 is the benchmark Hunter Valley Semillon, crafted from the best old-vine, dry-grown vineyards, primarily the iconic Short Flat block with vines dating to 1923. The 2018 vintage, shaped by dry, warm conditions akin to 2003, yielded smaller crops with robust flavours and softer acids; hand-picked and sorted grapes underwent cool fermentation in stainless steel without oak, preserving freshness. At around 12-13% alcohol, it displays delicate citrus aromas evolving into ripe lemon, citrus curd, and honeysuckle, with a dense, powerful fruit core balanced by texture and soft acidity. Approachable now yet renowned for exceptional aging potential of 10+ years, earning 98 points from Halliday.
