Producer Profile
The 2020 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz exemplifies Penfolds' masterful blending philosophy, marrying 57% Cabernet Sauvignon for elegant structure, linearity and tannic grip with 43% Shiraz for rich mid-palate flesh, spice and amplitude. Sourced from premium parcels in McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Padthaway, the fruit was meticulously selected for aromatic integrity and regional expression. Matured for 12 months in American oak hogsheads—33% new, with the balance from barrels previously holding Grange—this 'Baby Grange' integrates judicious oak with vibrant black fruits, delivering a wine of consummate polish, sleek tannins and decades of graceful evolution. As Chief Winemaker Peter Gago notes, it's 'varietally balanced and focussed'—harmonious after sixty years of this iconic practice.
